Glen Allen, VA– In recent weeks, tensions between the United States and Iran have risen following an attack on a US Embassy in Iraq and the US actions against Qasem Soleimani.
“It has been necessary and long overdue for the US to stand against an increasingly aggressive Iranian regime with hopes of securing nuclear capabilities,” said Andrew Knaggs, Republican candidate for Virginia’s 7th Congressional district.
Knaggs formerly led US Department of Defense (DoD) policies, plans, authorities, and resources related to special operations and counterterrorism under the Trump Administration.
Following the US operation against Soleimani, Democrats, including Abigail Spanberger, warned of the potential consequences of the operation.
Knaggs, who commanded a Special Forces team in Iraq, pointed out that risk is associated with all operations and that Americans should not forget the lives that have been lost due to Iranian aggression- most recently with the attacks in Iraq.
“It is disheartening that rather than recognizing the strategic value of President Trump showing strength in the midst of Iranian-created chaos, Representative Spanberger has chosen instead to focus on the most basic elements of risk that are intrinsic to all operations,” continued Knaggs.
“The fact is that Qasem Soleimani was not simply associated with the loss of American lives, he was directly responsible for it,” said Knaggs.
Knaggs concluded, “I wholeheartedly support President Trump and his Administration for taking bold action in the face of unwarranted aggression and believe the US military is well-positioned to respond appropriately.”
